Red Giant releases Universe 1.6
Red Giant has released Universe 1.6, the latest update to its online library of effects and transitions for common editing and compositing packages, adding six new tools for Premium users.
New effects, transitions and background generators
New effects include Heatwave, which generates heat haze-style disortions in footage, and Point Zoom, which gives text the kind of projected hologram effect beloved of 1980s title sequences.
There are also two colour-related effects, including a Diffuse Color Glow effect for applying glow only to a specific colour within footage; and Spectralicious, a highly customisable six-colour gradient effect.
The latter also forms the basis of Spectralicious Transition, which creates a six-point colour map between A and B footage and uses those colours to transition between the two.
There is also a new tool for generating looping abstract backgrounds from textures or fractal noise.
Pricing and Availability
Universe 1.6 is available online now. Basic membership is free; the cost of a monthly Premium subscription rises from $10 to $20 per month, although annual subscriptions remain unchanged at $99 per year.
The cost of a lifetime subscription also rises, from $399 to $599, although Red Giant says that it plans to stop offering perpetual subscriptions from 1 January 2016.
