Flowbox ships Flowbox 1.7, integrates Mocha
Flowbox has released Flowbox 1.7, the latest update to its rotoscoping software, integrating Boris FX’s Mocha planar tracker, and improving performance.
First released in 2016, and developed by a team including former staff of Poland’s Alvernia Studios, Flowbox provides a well-thought-out set of roto drawing and animation tools, and an intelligent ripple editing system.
Mocha is now fully integrated into the software, though you pay more for it
The main addition in 1.7 is Mocha, Boris FX’s Academy Award-winning planar tracking technology.
The Mocha engine is now fully integrated into Flowbox, making it possible to use it to track roto shapes, although it’s optional: you pay more for the edition of the software including it.
Other than that, the update is mainly performance-focused, with the Roto Node and process architecture rewritten for “way faster” loading times, and the size of the software installer reduced.
Pricing and availability
Flowbox is available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.
Another change in Flowbox 1.7 is that it introduces perpetual licences for what was previously a rental-only product: something we’ve been starting to see more of recently.
Node-locked perpetual licences have an MSRP of $1,090 without Mocha, or $1,348 with it; floating licences have an MSRP of $1,290 without Mocha, or $1,528 with it. All are currently available at a launch discount.
Rental pricing remains unchanged, starting at $46/month without Mocha, or $56/month with it.
