Andersson Technologies releases SynthEyes 1903

Andersson Technologies has released SynthEyes 1903, the latest version of its 3D tracking software, adding ViewShift, a new integrated camera projection and rendering system.

It has a range of uses, from object removal to extracting animated textures from a shot.

ViewShift: a new system for object removal and texture extraction
ViewShift projects the camera view from a tracked shot onto a 3D mesh within the scene, making it possible to ‘re-shoot’ the mesh from a second camera.

That can be either a new camera view, or the source camera on a different frame within the shot.

The latter makes it possible to do object removal work directly inside SynthEyes, with the software automatically patching in the view from the nearest clean frame.

The system comes with built-in illumination compensation, improving the visual match between the patch and the surrounding footage.

According to the online documentation, ViewShift is intended more for generating elements for use in a compositing app than for final-quality output, but even out of the box, the results look pretty good.

Other suggested use cases include combining split takes, or – in the Pro edition of the software, at least – extracting animated texture maps from a shot.

Other new features: updates to GeoH tracking, plus multi-way undo in the Pro edition
SynthEyes 1903 also extends the software’s Geometric Hierarchy (GeoH) tracking system, adding a new Blur Weights tool, automatic weight map generation and a colour layer isolation display.

The Lens Workflow script has been updated to support anamorphic rack focus effects, and the image preprocessor now provides animated vertical scale and eccentricity options.

Users of the Pro edition of the software also get a multi-way branching undo/redo system, making it easier to compare the output of different tracking set-ups.

In addition, scripts and script updates – including a new Stabilization Rig Creator script – released since the last update to the software itself have now been rolled in.

Pricing and availability
SynthEyes 1903 is available for Windows 7+, CentOS 6 or Ubuntu 12.04/14.04 LTS Linux, and Mac OS X 10.9+.

New licences cost from $299 to $699, depending on whether you buy the Intro or Pro edition of the software, and for which platforms.
