Autodesk ships Flame 2022.2

Autodesk has released Flame 2022.2, the next update to its compositing, finishing and effects software, adding eight new control curve types to the MasterGrade colour correction toolset.

Other new features include a new Streaming Service profile for exporting H.264 files for delivery to popular streaming services, and support for 12G-SDI output when previewing video on external displays.

New advanced colour correction curves in MasterGrade
The headline change in Flame 2022.2 is the new set of control curves in MasterGrade.

The eight new curve types make it possible to manipulate specific colours in a shot without keying, including controls for adjusting the saturation or luma of a given hue, or replacing it with another colour.

New options for previewing and exporting projects
Other significant changes include support for 12G-SDI on Blackmagic Design and AJA Video Systems I/O cards, making it possible to preview 4K UHD video via a single cable.

Compatible cards include Blackmagic Design’s Ultra Studio and Deck Link and AJA’s T-TAP Pro.

There is also a new Streaming Service profile for H.264 files, intended to simplify the export of deliverables in multiple formats matching the specifications of popular streaming services.

Workflow improvements when conforming edits and working with the timeline and media hub
In addition, the Auto Link Matches option is now selected by default when conforming edits. Sources found with Search Location automatically relink to segments according to the Match Criteria.

There are also new options to set the frame range used for analysing motion vectors, normal maps or Z-depth, and to control how changing the RGB or matte channel of a segment affects connected segments.

In the MediaHub, users can now choose whether to display image sequences as single clips or series of individual images on a per-file-format basis; and to display files that Flame cannot itself import.

There are also a number of codec updates and general performance improvements: you can find more details via the links at the foot of the story.

Pricing and availability
Flame 2022.2 is available for CentOS 7.6/8.2 Linux and macOS 10.14+ on a rental-only basis. Subscriptions cost $550/month or $4,415/year.
