Discover how to create a stylized 3D character

The Gnomon Workshop has released Creating a Stylized 3D Character Illustration, a guide to current character design workflows recorded by collectibles and cinematics artist Amy Sharpe.

The workshop, which provides over five hours of video training, covers a range of industry-standard tools, including ZBrush, Maya, Substance 3D Painter, Marvelous Designer, Arnold and Photoshop.

An end-to-end guide to 3D character design workflows using current standard software
In the workshop, Sharpe demonstrates her personal character design workflow, and reveals some of the production techniques she has adapted to make the process quick, clean and efficient.

She begins by sketching loose concepts and compositions in Photoshop, then sculpting the character in ZBrush, also touching on the use of Marvelous Designer to create 3D clothing.

Retopology and UV-ing work are carried out in Maya, and texturing in Substance 3D Painter, followed by look development in Maya and Arnold, and post-production in Photoshop to create the final image.

This workshop is intended for late beginner to intermediate-level artists, though the general concepts discussed will be useful to artists of all levels of experience.
