How to illustrate dynamic concept designs in Photoshop

The Gnomon Workshop has released Illustrating Dynamic Concept Designs, a practial guide to concept art workflow, recorded by People Can Fly art director Abe Taraky.

The workshop, which provides over two hours of video training, covers the process of building up an idea from an initial sketch through to a finished concept image in Photoshop.

In the workshop, Taraky reveals his workflow for creating a fully realised illustrative concept image: a process rooted in foundational drawing techniques and design philosophy.

He begins by exploring techniques for gathering reference images, using PureRef to organise the files.

Taraky then reveals how to use core drawing techniques to add dimensionality to the image, and how to increase its visual impact through rendering techniques, explaining his thought processes along the way.
