Tutorial: Sculpting with ZModeler
The Gnomon Workshop has released Sculpting with ZModeler, an introduction to ZBrush’s polygonal modelling toolset, recorded by Marvel Studios character modeler Daniel Zeni.
The workshop provides two hours of video training on using ZModeler to create both organic and hard surface forms, as Zeni creates a 3D character based on a design by concept artist Anh Dang.
Discover how ZBrush’s ZModeler toolset can revolutionise your character workflow
Although ZBrush is best known as a digital sculpting tool for creating organic characters, it also has its own polygonal modelling toolset, ZModeler.
In the workshop, Zeni explains how ZModeler has revolutionised his own workflow as a character artist, and reveals how to use the toolset to its full potential.
The training is aimed both at those who want to transition from traditional box modelling in other 3D applications and experienced ZBrush artists who want to speed up their workflows.
Zeni begins by covering the basics, demonstrating the various ways to edit vertices, edges and faces in ZModeler, and how to create clean topology for both hard surface and organic models.
He then moves on to more advanced workflows, including niche techniques like using geometry instancing system NanoMesh with ZModeler.
