Tutorial: Race Vehicle Concept Design

The Gnomon Workshop has released Race Vehicle Concept Design, a detailed new tutorial recorded by Design Consultant and Artist Chris Beatty.

The workshop, which is suitable for artists of all skill levels, provides over eight hours of video training in Blender, Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects.

Design futuristic vehicles grounded in real-world engineering principles
In the tutorial, Beatty explores how to design a near-future racing bike, setting out the design process he has developed through two decades working in the industry.

Following a practical ‘form follows function’ approach, he reveals how to design a futuristic vehicle that remains grounded in real-world engineering principles.

Beatty uses Blender as his primary production tool for the work, demonstrating the modeling techniques he uses to develop the form of the vehicle.

As well as the technical aspects of the work, the tutorial explores how to reveal maximum creative freedom throughout the process, and how to extend the point of commitment as far as possible before reaching the final render.

As well as the tutorial videos, viewers of the workshop can download project files including the bike itself, including as a turntable, and the background environments.

The base model for the rider is a commercial asset from CGTrader, while the HDRIs used for rendering are free assets from HDRI Haven.
