Starting from your home in Hong Kong, how did you end up at Blur?
I was born in Hong Kong, and resided there with my younger brother until I turned 16. We grew up with a very structured schedule and several extra curricula besides regular school. Not that many people know but I danced ballet and played classical piano for 10 years. In those years of training, I feel that it was very challenging and sometimes quite defeating...However, I learned a great deal about patience and the only way to get better is to practice consistently. Progress could be slow but it accumulates.
Like a lot of artists in this industry, I grew up with heavy influence from video games, anime and comic books or manga. But honestly I didn't think about being a video game artist until later on in college.
I started drawing at a very early stage of my life, my mother would bring us across town to a children's art house. We would engage in projects like painting landscapes, drawing Disney characters, sculpting with clay and painting faces on rocks. I had many fond
memories in Hong Kong with my family.
When I turned 16, everything changed. My father decided to sell everything we have from Hong Kong and moved to Thailand. We were supposed to help out on a farm somewhere in Thailand. My mother didn't want me to go, and she decided to use her savings to send me abroad to continue my study. My brother went with her to Thailand.
Her savings didn't last very long and in order to stay in school I have to support myself and live on my own. It was very hard in the beginning, because I missed my family and life in Hong Kong. But I realized that I have to move on and not waste my time anymore. I
became very quiet and studied extremely hard all the time. I finally passed the ESL (English as Second Language) program and was able to take a credited class in a certified program in Visual Communication
